Coltene-Coltolux-LED-Light-Cure
The Coltene Coltolux LED Light Cure is a dental device designed to revolutionize the polymerization process for dental restorations. With a sleek cordless pen-style design, this tool seamlessly combines portability and high output, making it an indispensable addition to any dental practice.
One remarkable feature of the Coltolux LED is its innovative heat sink technology, which effectively reduces heat emission, eliminating the need for a fan. This not only ensures patient comfort during procedures but also enhances the device's durability.
Specifically engineered to match the absorption spectrum of Camphorquinone (CQ) photoinitiators, the LED light output guarantees efficient polymerization. With rapid curing capabilities, it can cure materials up to 2.0 mm deep in just 10 seconds, significantly improving workflow efficiency. Dentists and registered dental assistants are the intended users of the Coltolux LED Curing Light. It is not designed for use by the general population.
The clinical benefits of this device are substantial. It works in conjunction with restorative dental materials to seal and protect decayed tooth enamel and dentin, bond dental braces for malocclusion treatment, and repair or restore enamel and dentin damaged by physical trauma.
Activation and deactivation of the curing light are straightforward, with an audible beep every 10 seconds during operation. It automatically shuts off after 20 seconds, enhancing user convenience.
To maintain optimal performance, periodic testing of light intensity output is crucial. A reading of 300 mW/cm² or higher indicates acceptable light output, while a reading below 300 mW/cm² or a reduction in intensity from the original value warrants corrective action.
The Coltolux LED also features a low battery indicator, ready and sleep modes, and thermal protection circuitry. It can perform a minimum of 18 complete twenty-second cycles before entering thermal protection mode.

SET-UP AND ASSEMBLY
- Remove the protective insert by first sliding the release button in the direction indicated by the arrow. Hold the button in this position while removing the insert from the supply.
- Angle the top of the new adapter into the recess of the supply. Slide the release button in the direction indicated while simultaneously pressing the new adapter into place.
- Insert the handpiece into the charger base. When the handpiece is being charged, the light on the charger base will be orange. When the handpiece is fully charged and ready, the orange light
- on the charger base will turn green. The initial charging of the handpiece will require approximately 3 hours to fully charge.
- When the handpiece is removed from the charger base the small light above the On/Off button on the handpiece will be green, indicating the unit is ready for use.
FUNCTION CHECK
- Activate/Deactivate Light - Depressing the On/Off button on the handpiece activates or deactivates the curing light. Do not hold the button continuously throughout the curing cycle. During operation, an audible beep will be emitted every 10 seconds. The unit shuts off automatically after 20 seconds.
- Measuring the Light’s Effectiveness - To ensure complete polymerization at all times, it is critical to periodically test the light intensity output.
- Radiometer Display - A reading of 300 mW/cm2 or higher indicates that the light output
- is acceptable for the polymerization of material up to a 2.0 mm depth. Follow the dental material manufacturer’s instructions for recommended exposure time, and check using the supplied test block. A reading below 300 mW/cm2 or a reduction of intensity of the light output in comparison to the original value, indicates that corrective action should be taken.
CLINICAL APPLICATION
- Polymerization: Determine the exposure time in accordance with the dental material manufacturer’s instructions using the test block provided. If the exposure time exceeds 20 sec.
- COLTENE recommends including a cooldown time before initiating another cycle. Failure to do so increases the risk of tissue burns and inadvertent heating of the dental pulp.
- Remove the charged handpiece from the charger base; position the light shield; slide the single-use barrier sleeve over the light; attach the light shield and direct the tip of the light
- lens as close to the restorative material as possible without touching.
- Activate Coltolux® LED with a momentary push of the button. Avoid contact with un-polymerized restorative material, glass ionomer, liquid resin, or bonding agent because direct
- contact will cause these materials to adhere to the light lens. This will block the light transmission and result in improper polymerization.
- To safely terminate the procedure, press, and release the activation button.
